In Andersen's early life, his private journal records his refusal to have sexual relations.

Andersen often fell in love with unattainable women and many of his stories are interpreted as references to his sexual grief.[11] At one point he wrote in his diary: "Almighty God, thee only have I; thou steerest my fate, I must give myself up to thee! Give me a livelihood! Give me a bride! My blood wants love, as my heart does!"[12] A girl named Riborg Voigt was the unrequited love of Andersen's youth. A small pouch containing a long letter from Riborg was found on Andersen's chest when he died. Other disappointments in love included Sophie Ørsted, the daughter of the physicist Hans Christian Ørsted, and Louise Collin, the youngest daughter of his benefactor Jonas Collin. The most famous of these was the opera soprano Jenny Lind. One of his stories, "The Nightingale", was a written expression of his passion for Lind, and became the inspiration for her nickname, the "Swedish Nightingale". Andersen was often shy around women and had extreme difficulty in proposing to Lind. When Lind was boarding a train to take her to an opera concert, Andersen gave Lind a letter of proposal. Her feelings towards him were not the same; she saw him as a brother, writing to him in 1844 "farewell... God bless and protect my brother is the sincere wish of his affectionate sister, Jenny."[13]

Just as with his interest in women, Andersen would become attracted to nonreciprocating men. For example, Andersen wrote to Edvard Collin:[14] "I languish for you as for a pretty Calabrian wench... my sentiments for you are those of a woman. The femininity of my nature and our friendship must remain a mystery." Collin, who did not prefer men, wrote in his own memoir: "I found myself unable to respond to this love, and this caused the author much suffering." Likewise, the infatuations of the author for the Danish dancer Harald Scharff[15] and Carl Alexander, the young hereditary duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach,[16] did not result in any relationships.

 Also neither Maṅgala nor Budha are in strong position in Navāṁśa to alter the nica avasthā.  Guru being in 16th nakśatra (sanghatika) shows his disgust towards the vulgar sexuality.

   Among many areas of life of Hans-Christian Andersen the one which didnt fructify were  relationship, marriage and sexuality. Its said that Andersen died as a bachelor/virgin despite his sexual fantasies. The frustration was so strong that some say it was the source of his depression.

I will use the standard method of Upapada, Darapada, Darakaraka, Dara-bhāva, Dareśa, Yoga, Tithi and Nakśatra.

Among the strongest yoga for the marriage delay we observe:

·         7th from Shukra is occupied by Vakri graha in napumsaka sign and as napumsaka graha

·         Lord of Upapada altough Surya (dynasty, gens, family) is in full napumsaka yoga (Śani, Budha, Shukra)

·         2nd lord from Upapada if weak can deny the marriage completely, here it is nica (debilitated). Budha being 2 deg close to Surya is heavily combust which is not good for the marriage

·         Darakaraka is in 8th from Ātmakāraka in Navamsa

·         The yoga in the 5th confirms the effect on his psychological or mental state

·         Mangal is also nica and is lord of Tithi in 6th from the 4th house with Ketū - the parivartana with Moon is there but again in house and sign of celibacy - 6th and Maṅgala sign Meśa;

o    Debilitated - low interest or obstacles/denials, no opportunities

o    Ketū yuti - Ketū destroys rajas guṇa and relationship being mokṣa kāraka leading to emancipation

o    6th is associated with celibacy or virgin (kumari sign)

·         In the somanath drekkana related to sexuality Mangal lord of the lagna (also kāraka of celibacy) is heavily influenced by secrecy and hiding the impulses in sign of Vrscika and in 8th house. 7th house have Surya nica and lord is again with Ketū.

·         Sanghatika from Lagna is  occupied by Ātmakāraka Rāhū in 3rd with Darapada showing his strong internal burning related to sexuality, lord of Darapada is Śani (also the 7th from Upapada) in napumsaka yoga in Vakri state (retrogression) in 7th from Venus.

I have left Navāṁśa in the analysis.

As we can see there is strong denial from all these points, that left no chances for married life. Especially the tithi lord, 2nd lord from Upapada and vakri grahas. Even the yuti of exalted shukra was denied due to 7th from it occupied by Vakri Śani and being involved in napumsaka yoga. Planets connected to tithi were in 3rd and 6th from 4th house and Shukra exalted brings very high ideals in the marriage which couldnt be materialised due to yoga of napumsaka and vakri graha Śani in the 7th house from Shukra. Finally Upapada is in 6th from Arudhalagna and the connecting graha - Surya is again smashed under the same yogas. The mahadasas from natural age of marriage were Moon, Mars (both matri sthira karaka in celibacy yoga), Rahu (AK in 11th from Surya and Venus), Jupiter (vakri).
